What’s Happening in Blazing Amazing June

Hello again and Welcome to Summer Lodge Devon.
June is nearly upon us and there is much to visit, see and enjoy!Many of the events this month are free to attend which is always good to hear and great news to pass onto you.

Probably one of the most important dates this month is Father’s Day on Sunday 15 June. And if you are looking for something a little different and special for Father’s Day why not book a surprise weekend away at Summer Lodge Devon for him – Not sure what he is up to? And so to June Happenings .. .. ..

Lyme Regis Crab Festival 7 – 15 June is a wonderful opportunity to explore all things Lyme Bay has to offer. Food and fishing are at the very heart of this Festival and is only a short drive away from Summer Lodge so why not take a look now and book your room online. Mark at workOne of the feature highlights of the week takes place on 7 June at 7.00pm – with Mark Hix and The Crab Feast. Devon’s celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer will be joined by several well-known faces to host a fantastic feast at the Marine Theatre. The evening will include a three-course rustic crab menu. Bibs, buckets and bludgeons will be provided!  The Money raised from ticket sales will go towards the Marine Theatre’s Raise the Roof campaign and money raised from the auction will go towards the Fishermen’s Mission.
Pigs on farmMeet a Farmer Day is taking place on 8 June at Kenniford Farm, Clyst St Mary. Hosted by Devonshire livestock farmers Andrew and Liz Freemantle. You can join the farm tour and find out more about food production and how our farmers manage the countryside. A display of static farm machinery and an opportunity to meet the animals is also on offer. The day begins at 10.30 and finishes at 3.30 so you will have plenty of time to enjoy our delicious cooked breakfast here at Summer Lodge Devon before heading out to meet the Farmer. fathers-dayFather’s Day 15 June happens to coincide very nicely with our terrific local Food and Families Festival taking place at Ottery St Mary (13 & 14 June), home of the Blazing Tar Barrels ancient custom (more of that later in the year). This years’ Festival includes demonstrations from Gelf Alderson of River Cottage fame, cupcake queen, Kate Shiraz and Masterchef semi- finalist Saira Hamilton showing her culinary skills with Bengali cooking. Ottery St Mary has always been known for its ancient traditions and customs and the Fish Dance is not to be missed if you are looking for something interesting and new to talk about during your next dinner date or get together! Axe Vale Festival 21 – 22 June – located on the outskirts of Axminster town and a short drive from Summer Lodge Devon – this Festival is a great day out for all the family – Show stopping flower displays, food, arts, crafts, jewellery, clothes and antiques are just some of the many attractions to hold your attention. The Festival is close to Hugh Fernleys River Cottage Canteen Axminster frontageWhittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen – only a short walk away from the Festival you can treat yourselves to lunch or an afternoon tea at the famous canteen.
